A resident of a house fired at four suspects who earlier had tried to break into the home only to return a few minutes later, Phoenix police said. A toddler was home at the time.
The three adults and one juvenile knocked on the door of the house near 83rd Avenue and Miami Street, police spokesman Detective Luis Samudio said.
When nobody answered, the four left. They returned minutes later and when nobody answered again, they walked to the back door and one of the suspects shattered a back window, Samudio said.A 50-year-old woman started to scream, awaking a 21-year-old man who was upstairs. A 21-month-old child was home, too. The suspects left in a Ford Taurus. They later returned to find the 21-year-old man in the front yard with a rifle, Samudio said.
The man started to shoot at the suspects in the vehicle, causing the suspects to flee and crash near 83rd Avenue and Elwood Street.
One of the suspects, a female, was sent to a local hospital but it has not been reported as life-threatening. All the suspects were in police custody.
It is unknown whether the female suspect’s injury was caused from the car crash or the shooting. Police didn’t immediately know why the home was targeted.
